September on the Farm
Autumn is typically an abundant time for the fruits, vegetables and cereals that we grow in the Westcountry and for years our ancestors have marked this by giving thanks with a Harvest Festival.
'The fields are full of sunflowers,
sweetcorn and squashes'
Harvest festival is normally held on or near the Sunday of the Harvest Moon. By this time, all the crops have been harvested and the festival is a celebration of the food grown on the land throughout the year. The celebrations in our country date back to pagan times and continue today in churches and schools
This September on the Farm we have an beautiful field of sunflowers, the first squashes in all their shapes sizes and colours are ready to eat and Green Valley Cyder are starting to press their cyder.
