What an amazing day! The Prime Minster popped into Darts Farm asking how to support small family businesses to enable a vibrant rural economy.
In a world that is increasingly dominated by massive companies and globalisation, it’s great that the Prime Minister took the time to visit a family business in Devon and for us to be able to help him understand the challenges and opportunities that our rural community faces.
We have welcomed politicians from all parties over the years and believe that, if the opportunity arises, it is important to engage with them and try to influence policy in order to support our community.
Our father, Ronald, started ‘Pick Your Own’ in a small farm hut at Darts Farm in 1971 but at the age of 49, he sadly passed away, leaving us to continue his vision.
Darts Farm has grown organically since then, now with over 300 local people employed onsite, supporting hundreds of small, local food and drink companies as well as many local trades people; all of whom are part of our thriving local community. We have always supported local charities whether it’s donating our home-grown produce to Exeter Food Cycle or growing a field of sunflowers for Hospiscare.
We are proud to live in a county that has some of the best food producers in the world, but with rural communities, independent business and small farms struggling in a globalised world, our community needs all the help it can get!
We're now auctioning 'Boris' Bird', a Christmas Turkey latticed with bacon by the Prime Minister on his visit, with all proceeds going to Devon Air Ambulance Trust. Make your bid now!
We are thrilled to announce that our expert florist, Anna Slade, was awarded a Silver medal at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Come and join us and pick our Sunflowers for Charity!
